Calling all young writers in the South East,
join a Writer Squad!
Calling all keen writers aged 13 – 17 in the South East area. New Writing South and its partners in Eastleigh, Portsmouth, Rye and Margate are recruiting for the first ever Young Writer Squads.
Whether it is rap, playwriting, short stories, lyrics, poetry or flash fiction that interests you, we would love to hear from you!
The Squads will be run by professional writers and will include introductions to a wide range of writing styles, support to develop your skills and visits from invited guest writers as well as being part of an online community of young writers in the South East. The Squads will meet one Saturday a month for 11 months starting in September 2011. There are 15 places available in each Squad and the selection process is via submission of a short written piece and attendance at an introductory workshop.
If you would like to apply to be part of the Eastleigh, Rye, Margate or Portsmouth Writer Squad, please send a sample piece of your writing (at least 300 words) in any genre, responding to the title ‘BREAKFAST,’ along with your name, address, e-mail address and date of birth. You will then be invited to attend a writing workshop- The workshop dates are:The Berry Writer Squad in partnership with The Berry Theatre, Eastleigh
Wednesday 8 June at The Berry Theatre, Eastleigh between 4.30- 6.30pm
Rye Writer Squad in partnership with the School Creative Centre, Rye
Saturday 11 June at the School Creative Centre between 2 -4pm
Margate Writer Squad in partnership with The Theatre Royal, Margate
Wednesday 15 June at Margate Theatre Royal between 4.30- 6.30
Portsmouth Writer Squad in partnership with the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth
Saturday 25 June at New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth between 10am- 12pm
Please make sure you are free for the relevant workshop.
The 15 lucky writers in each Squad will be contacted after the workshop. There is a small fee of £30 for the course, bursaries are available.
