So election fever is on.
On May 6th people all over the nation will be voting for our next government, the people who make decisions and form policy on our behalf, the outcomes of which impact on our everyday lives from which school we go to, how we get there, to how much it costs to get in to the local swimming pool or how old you have to be to drive or even vote (currently 18).
Meanwhile, on a smaller scale our youth panel are currently pouring over the entries for our ‘You Rule’ competition (see here for details http://theunit.posterous.com/if-you-were-ruler-of-your-own-postcode-for-a). From contributing to the arts scene in Salisbury and South Wiltshire, to improving spaces for young people, to fantasy ideas for improving the local area (future architects) to improving school life/policies for young people – it’s going to be a really tough job, there’s a lot of entries and a lot of great ideas and proposals from a range of young people around South Wiltshire.
We’ll be sharing some of these with you in the run up to May 6th. It will probably take a while for the youth panel and our competition partners at the South Wiltshire Economic Partnership (SWEP for short) to vote for the winner, I’m just glad I don’t have to. The winner will be awarded a 32gb Ipod Touch and three runners up will win a nice wadge of music tokens.
Thank you and well done to all those who entered, we just wish we had the means to give you all prizes!!
Watch this space for a sneaky preview of some of the great entries that young people submitted.
